How To Wear Orange Lipstick: Summer Makeup Trends

As this Summer season rolls around, the runways of Prada, were filled with bright neon colors. One particular bright trend stands out the most. Bright orange neon lips. Orange lipstick might not have gotten many sales in the past, but as this fun trend hits the season, it’s time to pucker up and showcase a new color. After finally figuring out the “classic red” and how to pull that off, you might be left wondering how on earth you can pull off orange! I mean, we are not trying to transform our lips into Snooki’s skin color, after all! Don’t worry, this sun-kissed trend is easy and fun to do.

The best news is that orange flatters almost any skin tone, so you don’t have to worry about finding “the perfect shade”. This time we get to keep it simple, with 3 options. A light shade, a medium shade, or a dark shade. The general rule of thumb, as seen in the runways is, “the lighter your skin tone, the darker the shade”. Once you find a shade that suits you (scroll below for some major help!), the rest of your makeup should be kept simple. A light matte bronzer will work best on your cheeks. Keep the eyes simple by lining the top lash line with a gel or liquid eyeliner, and wing it out at the ends to create a cat eye effect if you want. The eyeshadow should be kept very simple, nothing more than a bit of light brown eyeshadow on your lids. We want to keep the rest of the face simple in order to avoid looking tacky. Orange is a risqué color, and we don’t want to overdo it.

There is, of course, exceptions to this “keep it simple rule”, but these should generally be saved for fun outdoorsy days like a trip to the amusement park. You can layer on a peachy blush to give your face a flush of color. Add a little mascara to your eye lashes, but leave the rest of the eyes alone. Take Megan Fox for example. Keep your face simple, but like Megan, you can add some blush or bronzer to the apples of your cheeks. NOT orange. Any other color is fair game, but the runways have tended to be biased toward white. White t-shirts, white dresses, etc. Pair a flowy shirt with bell-bottoms and some heels or wedges and you will exude this season’s hottest trends!
