Is It Better To Live With Limitations Or To Believe Anything Is Possible?

Limitless or Restricted?
When facing the stark challenges of life, it is often useful to believe that one can succeed without set limitations. When John D. Rockefeller found himself on his father’s farm, he did not let that stop him from seeing the larger things he could achieve in his life. Had Rockefeller not set forth bigger dreams and visions, he would have been just another regular man in the streets of New York. Realism often impedes the potential for great and infinite success and with an excess of overly realistic thinking some of today’s large and useful inventions would have never come about.
Masterminds of Their Time
Limitless visions were John D. Rockefeller’s definition of success. From 1859, the year that oil was discovered to 1870, Rockefeller, Flagger, and Andrews had become the largest oil company in the world. It took them a mere 11 years to almost completely take over the oil and petroleum industry, yet their visions of success did not end there. As a child, Rockefeller, only dreamed about such vast success, and it is these unrealistic dreams that helped him to own the largest oil refinery in the world. Nothing else but the thought that he could achieve anything could have guided him to create an organized system for petroleum out of the chaotic mess the nation was in at the time. His dreams for success furthermore helped the entire economy by bringing an industrial revolution to the nation and making the government and the nation millions of dollars through the petroleum and oil industries. Had John D. Rockefeller been a simple realist, he could never become one of the richest men in the world.
What made Rockefeller a money making machine?
- John D. Rockefeller: Was A robber baron Of Petroleum...
John D. Rockefeller was a robber baron who used his insight of business to ruthlessly force other oil and petroleum companies out of business, and who managed to hide it all from the public. Rockefeller thought of all possible ways to eliminate his c
Although some people might argue that realistic thinking leads the world to slow yet steady progress, nothing could be further from the truth. What would have become of the first airplane had the Wright brothers given up after the first crash of the Flyer? Powered by their desires to fly the first successful manned flight and a lasting vision of achievement, the Wright brothers effectively flew the first aircraft in the world on December 17, 1903. The harsh reality was that an aircraft that was heavy was going to be hard to control. Realistically speaking, they should have given up. An almost 200 pound aircraft was never going to make it off the ground. Why bother wasting time to try and figure it out? So had they stopped there, with realistic thinking in mind, today one would not be able to visit their friends in a different country without having to travel a few good months at sea. Many more notable inventions would either not have occurred, or would have come about much later in time had all their inventors been stark realists.
To Be Or Not To Be
It is important to learn to dream of success and believe that one can achieve anything because it allows the world to progress forward and achieve great things. John D. Rockefeller did not let the fact that he had tremendous competition in the oil industry bring him and his vision of creating an organized and successful petroleum industry. In addition, the Wright brothers denounced realistic expectations, and set their dreams high toward the big goal of creating the world’s first successful manned flight. It is better to believe that one can achieve anything instead of setting limitations on one’s own future and limiting the possibilities for success.

Awesome ideas. Great hub.
Some refer to the barrier as being "reasonable" or using "reason" or "common sense."
Great things can be done by being unreasonable, but also evil things, if we are not careful.
Restraint is also good. Some have become wealthy and powerful by theft and murder. They were unreasonable, but following ego, rather than the light of good.
Rockefeller created the great pharmaceuticals industry and the abomination of modern medicine which, though they do some good, are more in it for the money than to help people. Any cure is quashed! Any scientist who finds something cheap and natural to solve our ills is ridiculed. Testing of natural cures doesn't make money so they are never done. Rockefeller may have had great vision, but it was full of greed and evil at the cost of human lives. America didn't use to have such high incidence of obesity, cancer and heart problems. Only with poisoned food, chemicals and harmful medicines did we have such high rates of health problems.
I believe anything is possible, but there are right ways and numerous wrong ways. Having humility and restraint can help us choose the right ways.
Dreamers, and those who look beyond what IS, are the ones most likely to push through those "limitations", to give us NEW things. Things the propel them, and society forward from the past to the present, to the future.
Keep dreaming, and pushing the "impossible" boundaries, I say!!
What an inspiring hub Londonlady!
I am positively charged now! I believe that anything is possible, aliens, ghosts, a warless Earth, space colonies as well as the personal achievements we are all capable of.
I'm going to follow you because I like how you are able to write on so many different subjects. You practice what you have preached in this hub. :)
Take care Londonlady! :) Rich
My father use to tell me I could do absolutely anything I set my mind on. I didn't fully believe that when I was young but I sure believe it now. I think your hub is very inspiring.
Limitations are bassicly socialy constructed. Limitations are what we know to be the limit, but many times people have went beyond what was thought to be the absolute limit. As we see it humans can only run so fast, jump so high. Cars can only go so fast, rockets can only go so far. When these limits become broken by someone who ignores realism, another standard of realism will be created, that many people will belive is the limit, untill another person sets a new limit, it continues etc etc. I belive that humans were created in the image, and likenes of god, so bassicly the only limits humans have, are the ones we accept as limits in our minds.
You are welcome
Satan wants us to fail and God wants us to succeed, to me it is that simple!

We should always be told that anything is possible. Good provoking hub.
