Treat your skin in the winter
- DIY: Homemade Facial Scrub
Here is a simple and easy to make DIY homemade facial scrub that you can create using basic ingredients from your kitchen.
We all know too well, the makeup essentials that we can’t live without. Our concealer, that ONE mascara and a favorite lip gloss. However this does not mean that these makeup essentials should be the only items that ever see your cosmetics case. As the seasons change and the temperature drops, so should your list of makeup items.
Here is a list of handy cosmetics items a lady should always carry with her, as well as some extras to add in as the seasons shift. Here’s how to make your makeup match the seasons!
Year-Round Essentials
The Basic Essentials
So here are the cosmetic essentials that should be in every makeup bag 24/7 and 365 days a year regardless of the season!
- A mascara
- Hand sanitizer
- Concealer
- Lip gloss
- Mirror
- Cosmetic sponge
- q-tips
You can use a mascara for quick touch ups or to lift your eyes and, if you ever really need to, you can take a q-tip and use the mascara as eyeliner.
A mirror is always handy if there isn't one around.
Hand sanitizer is a "duh" ...you don't want to touch your face after you just got out of the subway station in New York. No.
A cosmetic sponge (wedge) will help you blend out concealer so it doesn't look spotty or blotchy.
A lip gloss can sometimes be the most you'll ever need to glow. Use it on your lips, on your cupid's bow, and even on your cheekbones as a subtle highlighter. If you're a lipstick junkie...feel free to throw in the season's trendiest color.
As a general rule of thumb, darker lipstick colors are worn in the wintertime (berry's, mauve, plum, etc.) and lighter colors are for spring and summer (pink, nude, coral and so on).
Winter Essentials
Add These In The Winter
As the temperature drops, so do the levels of moisture in the air. Which is bad news for your skin. And lips. Especially if you have dry skin to begin with. So add these 2 to your year-round makeup essentials during the winter.
- Moisturizer
- Lip balm with SPF
In the summer time (or anywhere where the temperature is high and the climate is humid) it's not necessary to pile on moisturizer, because your skin's natural oils, aided by moisture in the air, are enough to keep your skin hydrated and glowing. However in the winter you'll notice your skin starts to become dry and your lips might be chapped, so you need to compensate until the weather starts warming up again or just deal with looking like tree bark for a while.
Summer Essentials
Add These In The Summer
Swap out the extras that you had in your cosmetic bag with these new handy products in the summertime.
- Pressed powder
- A fragrant mist
- Oil-blotting sheets
You don't need moisturizer anymore. Unless you have really dry skin. But I still wouldn't recommend it because if you sweat, it will easily be washed out of your pores. Instead, add in some oil-blotting sheets to wipe away excess oil, then use a powder puff or the cosmetic sponge to dust some light powder on your forehead, on your cheek bones and on the tip of your nose. You'll look good as new. And lastly, the fragrant mist is always a refreshing treat if you need a quick cool down.
I should mention that if you do choose to carry a fragrant mist with you, you shouldn't leave it in hot temperatures for a long time or the fragrance will denature. What initially smelled like roses, might not be your cup of tea after 3 hours of 90 degree Fahrenheit exposure.
